I was recently asked to fill-in on 3CR community radio station for my friend Marroushti of Salaam Radio Show (thank you Mirna for the opportunity) and thought it would be a great way to introduce some of the work I’ve been doing on Land, Biodiversity & the Colony and an important event I’m hosting on this topic, with a brilliant line-up of speakers next month.
This episode of Salaam Radio Show I prepared is dedicated to the Land, and the importance of ecological & land-based practices. During the show, I interview Professor Mazin Qumsiyeh from Bethlehem who is visiting us in Naarm next month to discuss the impacts of militarism on nature. I also commemorate Palestine’s Land Day, highlight the joint struggle of Indigenous communities in Palestine & Aboriginal Nations in so-called Australia, and plug some important events coming up at Beit e’Shai Teahouse on Land, Biodiversity & the Colony, and more.
You can listen to the recording of this episode below (produced in the studios of independent community radio station 3CR in Naarm/Melbourne):
Sonic musings curated for this show’s playlist are reflective, ambient, electronic, and sometimes classical; from some of my favourite artists including: Nicolas Jaar, Checkpoint 303, Kamilya Jubran, Khyam Allami, Oum, & Ruba Shamshoum, with releases from Al Gharib record label.

Below are links to events, readings & campaigns referenced in this episode. They are also published on the linktree in the bio of Beit e’Shai @beiteshai Instagram page.

About Beit e’Shai
After living back home in occupied Palestine in 2014-2015 under the harsh reality of military occupation, Rasha Tayeh had to move back to Melbourne, where she set up her business Beit e’Shai (House of Tea in Arabic, pronounced bayt eh shy). Beit e’Shai (established in 2017) is an apothecary and teahouse, with all teas and tisanes handmade by Rasha using 100% natural blends from certified organic ingredients. Informed by her ancestor’s wisdom and drawing on her knowledge and appreciation of traditional Arabic medicine and Palestinian herbalism, Rasha creates aromatic teas and herbal medicines that focus on health, wellbeing and comfort.
Beit e’Shai is built with intention to create a healing home for everyone.
About Dalia Association-مؤسسة دالية المجتمعية
Dalia Association makes grants available to support relevant civil society initiatives, especially grassroots efforts that seek to supplement local resources. A permanent endowment will be built over time to ensure sustainable income for current and future generations. Dalia’s work advocates for systemic change in the international aid system so that it respects Palestinian rights and responds to local priorities.

As you probably know by now, I launched an online tea house and apothecary late last year, called Beit e’Shai (House of Tea in Arabic, pronounced bayt eh shy). Since its launch, Beit e’Shai hosted different events, tea parties and workshops.
This Spring, on Sunday October 14th 2018, Beit e’Shai will be hosting a workshop exploring Herbs for Gut Health, at Attuned Music Therapy studio in Preston. Spring is associated with rebirth & renewal, making it a good time to cleanse, in this workshop we will be looking at bitter herbs, wild herbs and herbs that improve our digestion and general gut health. We will also discuss the benefits of fermented green tea along with a practical introduction to Komboocha making.
I will be setting up a table with Beit e’Shai products during this workshop for attendees to purchase from the full range of my handmade blends (at an extra cost to the workshop fee, cash and eftpos available).

*An Equinox is an astronomical event that happens twice a year, once in spring and once in autumn. It’s when the tilt of the Earth’s axis is inclined neither away from nor towards the Sun. During Equinoxes the tilt of the Earth (with respect to the Sun) is 0° and because of it, the duration of the day and the night are almost equal on Equinox day i.e. 12 hours.
Equinoxes occur on 20th or 21st March and 22nd or 23rd September each year and both days have equal length of day and night. While it is autumn time in the Southern hemisphere, March Equinox is called Autumnal Equinox, and in Melbourne this year, it falls on the 20th March. So to celebrate this time of year and connect with the natural cycles, this workshop’s content will reference the Equinox, its energy, transitions and the seasonal foods & medicinal herbs we can use to best support our bodies, minds and spirits.
**Vegan light snack/tasting included – please contact me when you book if you have any allergies.
In this two-hour Palestinian Cooking Workshop we will explore wild herbs, the liver & digestive health.

– Learn about traditional herbal infusions for detoxification, cleansing & good digestion
Participants will go home with:
– Recipes of the meal shared on the day & notes on how to look after the liver & digestive system
– A deeper understanding & curiosity for delicious foods from Palestine & the use of wild edible herbs
Workshop limited to 12 spaces. So, book early to avoid disappointment!
